Founded in 1885, the year following the birth of the association, the name Arravale Rovers Hurling and football club first appeared in Gaelic annals in 1886 and since that time has had a long and honoured connection with the GAA. In 1895 the club had the distinction of repersenting the county and winning All-Ireland Senior Football honours in the process, the first such final to be played at Croke Park, then known as Jones Road, Dublin. A commemorative plaque to mark that occasion was unveiled at Croke Park in 1996 by the then GAA President, Jack Boothman in the presence of several members of the Arravale Rovers club
