Thurles Drama Group’s Autumn production is A.R. Gurney’s ‘Sylvia’ – an idiosyncratic love story of sorts between married couple Greg and Kate and a stray dog Sylvia, which Greg has brought home.
Kate is reluctant to take on the commitment of an animal and wants the dog out of the house. But Sylvia slowly inserts herself into the relationship. She
has a meeting of minds with Greg. Bonding, they discuss the meaning of life and the cosmos. But for Kate, it seems that Greg is becoming obsessed with Sylvia.
With their marriage beginning to fall apart, tensions start to rise… Gurney’s play is ‘about love, relationships, instinct, loyalty and life’s vagaries as well
as complexities… more than anything it’s a very funny show.’
