Journeyer Exhibition by Margaret O’Brien – Running: Thursday 1st – Friday 23rd December
December will see an exhibition by local artist Margaret O’Brien. The work which was mostly completed during lockdown will comprise a collection of abstract and semi-abstract paintings, created using oil, wax and mixed medium on board and canvas.
Her paintings are strongly influenced by landscape and the natural environment. While some of the more recent works carry undertones of change and destruction. The inclusion of materials such as fire ash, bog mould and lichen are a nod to transience and mortality, these fragments also reference emotion, disturbance, harmony, connection and dis-connection, they also serve to form a link to ancient traditions and practices. Gesture and the imagery of fire are also a feature in her work.
Margaret is a graduate of LCAD and she has over the years partaken in both solo and group shows.
