Cashel Arts Festival is a four-day festival set in the town of Cashel in County Tipperary, famous for the ancient and iconic Rock of Cashel. The significant heritage sites in the town form a dramatic backdrop to a fine selection of contemporary arts events every autumn. The 17th Cashel Arts Festival takes place from 19th -22nd September.

The theme of the 2019 festival is Walls – both in celebration of the physical walls that surround the town, 700 years old this year, and a reflection of walls imposed or self-imposed that create a feeling of separation or boundaries in us and in our society. The festival will celebrate the walls through poetry, song, theatre, visual arts, music and dance.

Highlights include an exhibition of the work of the late Pádraig Ó Mathúna, silversmith, goldsmith, painter and enamellist; Rock Stars-A Further Constellation curated by Emma-Lucy O’Brien, The Bolton Lecture with leading international human rights lawyer Philippe Sands, accompanied by French pianist Guillaume de Chassy, music from David Kitt and Trinitones; theatre from Manchán Magan and Spliced; Don’t miss ‘Citadel of Dreams’=a street procession with landscape theatre and processional spectacle company LUXE on Culture Night (Friday 20th September); as well as Taste of Cashel, Within the Walls, Vocal Time Lapse, exhibitions, workshops and street entertainment.
